Chris Pratt Practiced CrossFit’s Murph Several Times to Get Ready for the Gritty Series

Chris Pratt played a Navy SEAL in his new Amazon series, “The Terminal List,” which debuted on July 30. Pratt underwent rigorous training, which included numerous tries at The Murph Challenge, to really prepare for this role.

Pratt had to be in “combat shape” to play the show’s lead, according to former Navy SEAL Jared Shaw, who plays Ernest “Boozer” Vickers, in Men’s Health‘s cover story. He needed to be able to drag a body, sprint while wearing a full suit of armor, quickly swap between different weapon platforms, and engage in close combat while just wearing a pair of underwear.

Pratt performed Murph multiple times during his training for this job, according to Shaw. For the cover story interview, the actor also made Men’s Health writer Mickey Rapkin do it.

Pratt did not take on The Murph Challenge repeatedly just to fulfill his obligation as a Navy SEAL. Over the years, he has performed the Hero workout with a variety of partners, including John Krasinski from the “Jack Ryan” series on Amazon.

Pratt occasionally works out with a group, and other times while traveling he uses the Murph machine in a hotel gym. One incident happened while Pratt was filming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in a farmhouse in Georgia.
The Murph Challenge for 2019 took place at Unbreakable Performance. Pratt teamed up with Shaw, Jay Glazer, Nate Boyer, a former Green Beret, numerous retired NFL players, and many others as they put themselves through their paces.

Pratt has previously spoken about his workout regimen and utilization of CrossFit-inspired moves. Pratt is featured on the cover of the current issue of Men’s Health. He also talked about this in an interview he gave to Muscles and Fitness in 2017.

Pratt took part in a cover photo where he was shown lying on a plyo box while promoting “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” In addition, Pratt described some of the exercises he had turned to after finishing the superhero movie and easing back on heavy lifting.

Pratt chose “more straight conditioning, like high-intensity interval training and CrossFit-style exercises,” according to the article. This includes exercises with medicine balls and battle ropes, CrossFit, Tabata, hot yoga, and other apparatus.

The Amazon series “The Terminal List,” which is based on the same-named book, was created for the part. “The Terminal List,” written by former Navy SEAL Jack Carr, follows Reece as he deals with the loss of his whole team and exacts vengeance on those to blame.

Since the publication of “The Terminal List,” Carr has often claimed that Pratt is the only actor he would want to play Reece in a television show or movie.

There is room for more episodes of the Amazon series, which only covers the first book. Pratt would be forced to continue this training method because Carr has written four additional books that follow Reece and the effects of his decisions.
