About Sara Sigmundsdóttir

Sigmundsdóttir, who is also a weightlifter, has been a CrossFit force for many years. She made her CrossFit Games debut as an Individual in 2015, finishing third behind second-place finisher Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and winner Katrin Davidsdottir. A year later, at the 2016 CrossFit Games, the podium was the same. Sigmundsdóttir came in fourth in 2017, 37th in 2018, 19th in 2019, and 21st in 2020.

Unfortunately, her career has recently been marred by injuries.

Despite winning the 2020 Open for the third time (2017, 2019, 2020), Sigmundsdóttir underperformed at the 2020 Games.

She later revealed that she suffered a shin injury prior to the 2020 Rogue Invitational as a result of a box jump mishap and held responsible the injury on her poor performance.

Sigmundsdóttir announced in March 2021 that she would not compete in the 2021 CrossFit Games season due to a ruptured ACL. (At the time, split jerks were the culprit.) )

Sigmundsdóttir isn’t the only notable athlete to withdraw from the 2022 Wodapalooza.

Ricky Garard withdrew from the competition on January 13 due to illness.

WZA would have been Garard’s second competition after serving a four-year doping suspension.

Garard and Sigmundsdóttir both competed in the 2021 Dubai CrossFit Championships in December 2021, with Garard finishing third and Sigmundsdóttir finishing seventh.

Wodapalooza 2022

Wodapalooza 2022 took place from January 13-16, 2021, at Bayfront Park in Miami, FL. The popular competition’s 2021 edition was cancelled due to COVID-19. The prize purse for the Elite Men’s and Women’s division winners in 2022 is $100,000, the largest in the event’s history.
